Obituary for John “Jack” Gerard Legendre

John “Jack” Gerard Legendre, beloved son, brother, husband, father and friend to so many, passed away from cancer, Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at his home in Texas surrounded by his loving family. He was 56 years old.

Jack was born in Thibodaux, Louisiana to Irene and John Rhorer Legendre on July 20, 1964. He attended E.D. White High School, where he was a proud member of the graduating class of 1982.

Upon graduation from high school, Jack attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA to pursue a degree in Finance. It was here that he would meet many of his lifelong friends and his dear wife of 33 years, Heidi Hogeman Legendre.

Following graduation from LSU, Jack moved to New Orleans, where he began his career at Whitney National Bank, while pursuing his MBA at The University of New Orleans.

In 1987, Jack married his college sweetheart, Heidi Hogeman and in 1996, they welcomed their first child, their son Rhory. In 2003, Jack and Heidi adopted their beloved daughter Mary Lynn from Guatemala. Jack was a very loving father and took such pride in his beautiful family and all of their accomplishments.
Jack continued in a very successful banking career through the years, working for First NBC and Hibernia National Bank. In 2005, Jack and Heidi moved to Texas where Jack worked for Capital One and Texas Capital Bank. All of these positions would lead Jack to the highpoint of his career, his current role as Executive Vice President at Woodforest National Bank. Jack truly loved the work he did at Woodforest and thrived on the opportunities it gave him to mentor young and upcoming bankers. He loved the environment of working with people who became family.

Jack’s greatest gift was his ability to love others and build deep, meaningful friendships. He was in his element when in community with others and made friends wherever he went, taking them along for the ride. Jack once told a close friend, “I think I was put here to bring people together. I mean, look how my circles of friends always intertwine. I love these people and they are all amazing, so it only makes sense I bring them together.”

Jack possessed a true heart of hospitality, as he found great joy in hosting his friends at his annual crawfish boils, gameday football gatherings, turkey gumbo parties, and sausage fest. There was nothing he enjoyed more than organizing and going on hunting and fishing trips, golfing, or attending LSU football games with his many friends. Jack’s incredible love for friends and mentoring others was the mark he left on everything he did and everyone he touched.

Jack’s heart for service extended to the various organizations he devoted his time to through the years. Of most note, he had served as President of The Woodlands Swim Team Parent Board and was an active Board Member of the Montgomery County, Texas Meals on Wheels program.

He is survived by his mother, Irene Legendre; wife Heidi Hogeman Legendre; children Rhory and Mary Lynn Legendre; sisters Leslie Legendre Mills (Dan) and Joan Ellen Legendre; brother-in-law Ricky Bonvillain, numerous nieces and nephews and one grandniece.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Rhorer Legendre and sister Janine “GiGi” Legendre Bonvillain; and niece Lesley Bonvillain LeBlanc.

A funeral service will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 2085 Saint Mary St., Thibodaux, LA on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 12:00 noon.
