Dr. Jill Marie Thompson entered into rest on Monday, September 2, 2019. Born on September 5, 1953, she was a native of Thibodaux and resident of Cypress, TX. Dr. Jill was the daughter of the late Johnny Thompson and the late Harriet Lee Thompson.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 from 9:00 AM until service time at Ordoyne Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Moses Baptist Church Cemetery.
She leaves to celebrate her life and legacy, one son, Eric Tyrone Thompson of Colorado; sisters, Constance Williams Johnson (Charles) of Thibodaux, Robin Thompson of Thibodaux; brother, Johnny Thompson of Thibodaux; half sister, Maria Williams Richardson (Edward) of Houma; half brother, Michael Scott of Thibodaux; godchildren, Tiffanie Williams Brooks (Malcolm), Jawanda Thompson Ausbrooks (Peter), Courtney Michelle Adams and Meghan Omofomwan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Harriet Lee Thompson.
Baptized at Moses Baptist Church at an early age, Dr. Jill always enjoyed singing in the choir and continued to sing in various church choirs wherever lived.
She was a 1971 graduate of Thibodaux High and attended numerous universities receiving multiple degrees including her Educational Doctoral Degree in Student Personnel Services from Grambling University.
Dr. Thompson held positions as a counseling practicum supervisor at the University of New Orleans, Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Professor at Governors State University, Associate Professor at Xavier University and Clark Atlanta University and Associate Professor in Counseling at Prairieview AME of Texas until God called her home.
Dr. Thompson published books, numerous articles and publications/presentations on Mental Health. She was a driving force in the educational careers of hundreds of students through her teaching and mentoring.
She enjoyed reading, sewing, World History, visiting historical sites, listening to music, singing, dancing and down home cooking from Louisiana. She lived life to the fullest, traveling and leaving her footprints in California, Turkey and finally Texas.
