Gerald "Blimp" Malcom Blanchard, 86, died Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 3:40 PM. Born January 26, 1935 he was a native of Labadieville and resident of Thibodaux.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 from 9:00 AM until service time at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 AM at the church with burial following in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virgie Lee "Boogie" Leonard Blanchard; son, Malcom Blanchard (Susan); daughter, Annette B. Smith; grandchildren, Cassie B. Lopes (Leonardo), Jordy Smith, Katie B. Detiveaux (Andrew), Brock Blanchard (Madison); great grandchildren, Jyron Smith, Isabella Lopes, Sophia Lopes, Julianna Lopes, Naomi Detiveaux, Charleigh Blanchard, Dre Detiveaux and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ivy Blanchard, Sr. and Lydia Landry Blanchard; siblings, Ridley Blanchard, Marguerite Naquin, Verta Landry, Vivian Daigle, Doris Lirette, Audrey Jordan, Ivy Blanchard, Jr. and Donald Blanchard.
He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was an avid deer and squirrel hunter and he enjoyed fishing for Choupic, sitting on his swing and playing cards. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
