Obituary for Bettie Whitney Monson
Bettie Whitney Monson, 90, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 7:24 pm. She was born on October 16, 1930 in Shreveport, LA and was a longtime resident of Napoleonville, LA.
She is survived by her children, V. Ray Thornton, III and wife Connie; Vickie Thornton Maeder and husband John; her special nephew, Scott Simoneaux; and her devoted friend, Darwin Mills. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Jeremy and Jessica Thornton, Chance, Kenny and Beau Diaz, Erin, Beverly, Jennifer, Christian and Ray Toups, III; as well as several great and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Wesley Monson and V. Ray Thornton, Jr.; her daughter, Virginia Thornton Diaz; parents, Charles "Elmo" Whitney, Sr. and Annie Rew Leopard; brother, Charles E. Whitney, Jr. and sister, Jackie Zimmerman.
Bettie enjoyed her many years of work as Secretary-Treasurer of the Assumption Parish Police Jury before her retirement. She will be missed by family and friends alike.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to her doctors, caregivers, the nurses and staff with Haydel Memorial Hospice and Ordoyne Funeral Home. In accordance with Ms. Bettie's wishes, there will be no services at this time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haydel Memorial Hospice or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
